Black Wolves Pass First Test in Win Over Buffalo

The New England Black Wolves came out on top in their first game of the season over the Buffalo Bandits. Buffalo was the second best team in the East last season while the Black Wolves, which were then in Philadelphia and called the Wings, did not make the playoffs. When you look at the Black Wolves they have one thing most other NLL teams do not which is a good mix of American, Canadian and Native American players.

One player who really stood out this week is Kevin Crowley. Crowley put on a stellar performance scoring a goal but also dishing out 5 assists on the night for 6 points.  All night Crowley was working the ball around and keeping things going on offense for his team.

Rookie Quinn Powless also contributed scoring a monster of a put back to get his first career goal with his new team. Quinn also added 2 assists to his point total and was 2-5 on face offs showing he can do many different things to help the Black Wolves out in 2015.

Kyle Buchanan scoring 4 goals in this game was huge  for New England he ended with 5 points. Pat Saunders looked to show he is going to continue last years success scoring a hat trick and getting 4 points all together. Also Kevin Buchanan (no relation with Kyle) showing he is not afraid to drop the gloves with some of the big boys in the NLL. Kevin is in his first year back after taking last NLL season off and he had 3 points in his first game back.

On defense this team looked better than expected. Free agent pick up Bill O’Brien is going to be big in the middle playing good on and off ball defense . Joel White was all over the place and led the team with 11 loose balls and  Craig England was second with 8.  It was a good move for the team to get Sheldon Burns on the active roster he had 4 loose balls 1 caused turnover and showed promise with his defense skills.
Others who played were Brett Manney with 3 loose balls, Brian Megill 4 lb’s. Mike Manley and Mike McNamara also bring a tone of tough nose defense to this team. In goal Even Kirk played great making 50 saves on the night showing he will be the man in net for New England. This weekend the team will take on the three peat champs in the Rochester Knighthawks this will be another early season test for the Black Wolves.
