Press Release:

The Boston Box Lacrosse League has released its Fall 2014 schedule, with 11 weeks of games played on Tuesday nights at the South Shore Sports Center in Hingham, Mass., beginning on September 30 and concluding with a championship contest on December 16.

The league should be more competitive than ever with two of its original teams – the MegaMen and the Orphans – merging, so that there will be four squads in the only active league in New England playing real box lacrosse in conjunction with U.S. Indoor Lacrosse.

“A lot of people would see contraction as bad news, but we think it means that all four teams will be deep and competitive, and every week amounts to a rivalry game,” said Randy Fraser, the league’s founder and the former assistant coach/general manager for the Boston Blazers. “We will have, effectively, the 80 best box lacrosse players in eastern Massachusetts playing in one place every week. There are players with professional or semi-pro experience on each team, players on each team who could be invited to the upcoming U.S. national team tryouts, and each game, every week, should be close and hard-fought.”

Returning for the fall session are the defending-champion Blazers, along with BullsEye, PrimeTime and the combined MegaMen-Orphans squad.

Games are at 9 and 10 p.m. each week, with a vacation week around Thanksgiving. The schedule is available on bostonboxlax.com; once games start, standings and statistics will be updated weekly.

In the BBLL’s fall and winter sessions, players must be invited onto a squad by one of the team captains. Players who are not familiar with the captains but who are hoping to get a spot in the league should contact Fraser or Chuck Jaffe at bostonboxlax@gmail.com.

The Boston Box Lacrosse League is New England’s home for real box lacrosse. The league plays under National Lacrosse League rules, with slight modifications, and is a member of US Indoor Lacrosse. The league began play in 2011; it is entering its third year hosting games in Hingham. More information – including standings and statistics during the season — can be found at bostonboxlax.com.
