Cannons Defeat Lizards for Third Win

The Boston Cannons appear back on track as they won their second game in a row for their third win overall of the 2013 MLL season.Matt Poskay led the Cannons with five goals as they defeated the New York Lizards, 16-12. The Lizards and Cannons now have the same record at 3-5 and it is the last time the two teams would meet for this season.

Rookie Will Manny put up five points along with veterans Kevin Buchanan (2, 3) and Paul Rabil (4, 1). The Lizards took an early 4-1 lead but led just 4-3 at the end of one.

The Cannons led 13-8 going into the fourth quarter but the New York offense couldn’t pick up. Jordan Burke made 16 saves in the win against the struggling Lizards offense.

The Cannons and Lizards are now both 4.5 games out of first place, and half a game out of the final playoff spot. Rochester and Charlotte are both four games out and if those teams lose, the Lizards and Cannons will have a chance to be back in the playoff race.

For the Lizards, Rob Pannell put up five points and Stephen Berger snapped his scoreless streak with a goal. Max Seibald added five points and Mark Matthews had two goals. The Lizards only have more goals than Rochester and last place Ohio, so they need to step up the offense to stay in this race.
