Cannons Fighting for Playoff Lives

The Boston Cannons can be eliminated from the playoffs this week as they host the Ohio Machine. The Cannons at 5-7 are a game behind the 6-6 Charlotte Hounds for the final Major League Lacrosse playoff seed. With a win the Cannons can stay alive. However, if they lose and the Hounds defeat the Hamilton Nationals, they will be eliminated.

The Cannons are battling the 1-11 Machine, the worst team in MLL. The Cannons defeated Ohio earlier in the season and struggled to that victory. The Cannons are lucky to have the tiebreaker over the Hounds with two wins over them this season.

Paul Rabil is playing through a sports hernia according to head coach John Tucker, making it a bit tougher for their best scorer. For the Machine, they are led by a very young offense led by rookies Logan Schuss and Marcus Holman, along with sophomore player Steele Stanwick.

The Cannons rookies have played well this season as well, such as Will Manny and Cameron Flint. However, both teams have struggled in net. Jordan Burke with the Cannons has had an off year to the surprise of Cannons fans, while the Machine have tried three different goaltenders this season.

At the moment former Chesapeake Bayhawks all star goaltender Brian Phipps has been playing decent, even though the team has allowed a league high 156 goals this season. The Machine have a chance to play spoiler and eliminate one of the league’s most prestigious teams. The game is on YouTube at 4pm tomorrow.
