Demons Remain Undefeated, Top TurfDogs

The Oshweken Demons (7-0) remain undefeated after a 14-10 home win over the Durham Turfdogs (1-6). With the win, Oshweken sweep the season series between the teams 2-0.

The Demons would gain a lopsided early lead, earning a 5-0 advantage in the first frame. Jordan Robertson (1g) would end the Durham drought with an unassisted marker, which was answered by Shane Francis to re-establish a five-goal Oshweken lead entering the second quarter.

Durham’s Scott Defrancesco opened the scoring in the second frame; however, the Oshweken offense would continue their onslaught responding with a four-goal run. A late quarter goal for the Turfdgos cut the Demons’ advantage to 10-3 at halftime.

The Turfdogs would rally in the second half, with a pair of goals from John St. John and a single marker for Brad Levick bringing the game within five. Travis Hill (1g, 1a) and Jason Henhawk (1g) would end a fifteen minute Demons scoring drought, extending the lead to 12-5.

Despite Durham’s resilience, outscoring Oshweken 7-4 in the final two quarters would not be enough to mount a comeback. Two fourth quarter Demons goals from Chris Attwood and Elijah Printup would put the game out of reach.

Chris Attwood (3g, 3a) and Tom Montour (2g, 4a) led Oshweken in the win with six points each, while Josh Johnson (1g, 3a), and Elijah Printup (2g, 2a) added four points

a piece. CLax’s leading goal scorer Wayne VanEvery was held to just one tally by the Durham defense, his lowest point total of the season.

A group of four Durham players, Scott Defrancesco (2g, 2a), Nick Grasby (1g, 3a), Brad Levick (1g, 3a), and John St. John (3g, 1a), led a balanced Turfdogs scoring effort each finishing with four points in the loss.

Oshweken will have the opportunity to complete an undefeated regular season when they host the Barrie Blizzard Saturday, March 15 at 8 p.m. on the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena turf. Durham will also close out their season versus Barrie Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at the Molson Centre.
