Detroit Looks to Beat Winless Mercer

Detroit – 3-2

Mercer – 0-3
Detroit started out the season with a huge statement win over Ohio State, followed by a loss to state rival, Michigan. The Titans squeaked out a one goal win over Robert Morris and fell by six to Marquette. Just three days ago, they took home a three goal win over Bellarmine.
Mercer is in its fifth year as a program, starting back in 2011. They are 0-3 on the season with losses against Boston Duke and Siena. The good news is, they’ve decreased the goal differential by about 2.5 each game and are averaging 6.67 goals a game.
This rivalry began back in 2011, where Detroit went on to win by a final of 19-3. Since then, Detroit and Mercer have met twice (2012 & 2014) with the Titans taking home a commanding 16-7 win in 2012, and an 11-10 victory in 2014. The two teams did not meet in 2013.
Detroit is led by freshman Mark Anstead, who has 17 points this season. He joins the plethora of Titan Seniors in Shayne Adams, Brandon Beauregard, Scott Drummond, and brothers Mike Birney and freshman Sean Birney. Combined, this offensive unit has tallied 34 goals and 27 assists. Canadian goaltender, Jason Weber has made 81 stops for a .591 save percentage.
Eight players have scored goals for Mercer, with Junior Chris Baxa leading the charge with five goals and two assists. They’ll need their Junior goalie out of Georgia, Mike Nugent, to stand on his head going up against this titanic offense.
Titans face-off unit is 45-120 so far this season. They go up against Mercer’s FOGO, Justin Evans, who went fifty percent against Duke and won 17-21 draws against Siena. Face-offs will play a big factor in todays game.
With last years game being a one goal differential, how will todays game end? Game time is set for 1pm at Detroit Mercy.
