Fann Cup 2014: Destination Chicago

While in Chicago I will be doing a daily blog recap on the fun and activities gong on at this years Fann Cup Lacrosse Tournament.

DAY 1 -Recap Thursday.

The morning started very early with a 6:30am flight to Chicago. Meaning arrival at airport 2 hours prior..OUCH!!

My daughter and I arrive in Chicago at 7:15 local time, pick up the bags, get the rental car and head to Naperville, IL.  BUt we figure we try to get to the Willis (Sears) Tower.  This was an adventure, trying to get there during morning rush hour and construction was tough enough, add in the people walking and riding bicycles and its an adventure.  They just walk right in front of you, and forget about trying to merge. So we gave up, headed to the store for some snacks, gatorade, etc.   Again as we drive t the hotel, more traffic and construction.

As we enter the hotel, we can see this is a very nice one. First thing my daughter and I see is a piano on wheels in the lobby, so we start to wonder, which of the crazy people coming for Fann Cup will try to move it.(LOL).  We check into the room, very nice and spacious, unpack and a much needed two hour power nap.  Next up… Wrigley Field.

After fighting almost two hours of traffic we arrive at Wrigley Field.  To say i was in awe would be an understatement.  This is a classic ball park that puts these new updated parks to shame.image

The game was far from exciting, if you are a Cubs fan, they lost 13-3.  But we were their to see this unbelievable stadium.  Steel columns blocking some view depending where you sit, manual scoreboard, rooftop bleachers.  For a baseball lover, this is heaven.  As my daughter and I take in the game with a few other friends, our very own CEO & President of this website (Marisa Ingemi) appears with her family.  They are in Chicago celebrating her birthday.  So not only where we in a great ballpark, but also talking lax and the tournament.  Spent some time talking to her dad during game, looking back at the older players from the 70’s-80’s.  After about 4 hours the game was over and now we try to get onto the highway back to the hotel, another adventure.

The long day is finally over, 21 hours later and I can finally sleep.

Coming up for Friday: Rest of the friends roll in, maybe some time in the pool, and the registration party tonight as we will all be together…This is going to be interesting.
