MSL: Lakers take over first

June 20, 2017

Week three of Major Series Lacrosse action saw only one team remain undefeated as the Peterborough Lakers took down the Six Nations Chiefs 7-6 in the battle of the best. The Lakers now sit atop the MSL standing with their perfect record and the contentment (for now) of knowing they bested their fiercest rivals. The Chiefs dropped to second place while Brooklin failed to gain any ground going 1-1. Oakville…

MSL week 2: Oakville falters but otherwise business as usual

June 12, 2017

Week two in the MSL saw more of the same: a lot of patchwork rosters. A clearer picture developed, however, of how the season might go. The Brampton Excelsiors’ early success fell off, while the Cobourg Kodiaks maintained their status quo of trying hard but not quite getting there. There are no words to what the Peterborough Lakers did to the Excelsiors on Thursday, while the Six Nations Chiefs picked…

The first week of Canadian summer ball finally arrived but with it came a lot of uncertainty for the early part of the Major Series Lacrosse season. With such a late end to the NLL season, every team in the MSL had to rely on patchwork rosters built from Jr. A and Sr. B call-ups. Some senior players are still in the NLL finals; some just need more time off…

Canadian Lacrosse: Grant’s Last Game

October 18, 2016

John Grant Jr. wasn’t able to end his Canadian senior lacrosse career the way he wanted to. His Peterborough Lakers fell short of hosting the 2016 Mann Cup after a game seven loss to the Six Nations Chiefs in the MSL final last month. The Chiefs went on to host and win the Mann Cup in five games over the Maple Ridge Burrards. Grant, a native of Peterborough and a…

After two games against the Six Nations…

No senior Ontario lacrosse team had been down three games in a series to come back and win four straight games until 2016. The Chiefs looked down and out after game three but an 8-1 win in…

August 27, 2016

The first season for the MSL’s Kodiaks in Cobourg was a memorable one. Off the floor, there are good memories. On the floor, however, the last place finish was pretty forgettable. The Kodiaks managed just one win and one tie in 18 games and did not make the playoffs. They’ve been off since July 28 while the league’s top four teams battle for the right to host the Mann Cup….
