The Florida Launch will honour former player and lacrosse legend Casey Powell during a halftime ceremony with the retirement of his No. 22 and the unveiling of a commemorative field banner on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Faceoff for the game against the Chesapeake Bayhawks is set for 7 p.m.

Powell will become the first player in franchise history to have his number retired.

The Carthage, New York native played his last three MLL seasons with the Launch, retiring as one of the league’s most prolific offensive threats with 549 career points in his 13 seasons. Powell began his legendary career in the league’s first year in 2001. He would go on to win the MLL Championship that year and twice more in 2008 and 2013. Powell won two Offensive Player of the Year awards (2005 and 2014), and, at 38, became the oldest player in history to win Most Valuable Player. In his three seasons with the Launch, Powell amassed 120 points for the blue and yellow.

Before turning professional, Powell attended Syracuse University where he brought the Orange the 1995 NCAA National Championship. Proving to be one of the most versatile athletes in lacrosse history, Powell became the only player ever to win National Player of the Year at two different positions. At the time of his graduation, Powell was SU’s all-time points leader (287).

Off the field, Powell is an ambassador of the game through his Casey Powell World Lacrosse Foundation that supports severely injured and sick lacrosse players and their families.
