Matthews Shines Again, Roik Struggles as Rush Win

The Colorado Mammoth fell to 2-4 and are currently tied for last place in the western division after suffering a 14-7 home loss to the Edmonton Rush. The win gives the Rush a 3-4 record on the year after a 2-0 weekend.

Rookie Mark Matthews led the Rush with 5 goals and 1 assist. The former University of Denver Pioneer currently leads the league in goals with 23. Fellow Edmonton rookie Curtis Knight posted 4 points in the victory.

Sophomore Mammoth member Adam Jones registered his 100th career point in the loss, leading Colorado with four points in the game. John Grant Jr. deposited a hat-trick against the Rush and currently leads the Mammoth in goals (20) and points (34).

Colorado’s goaltending struggles continued as both Matt Roik and Dan Lewis split time throughout the game. Roik, who started the game before being pulled and eventually put back between the cage during the fourth quarter, stopped 17 of 26 shots faced. Lewis turned aside 22 of 27 shots while in net.

Colorado will look to rebound from this week’s loss when they take on the Philadelphia Wings Sunday, February 24th at 4 p.m. The Rush seek to continue momentum when they battle the Minnesota Swarm on the same date at 3 p.m.
