MLL MVP Race: Gurenlian the Man?

This MLL season has brought forth a season of dominances. From Greg Gurenlian at the face- off x or Kevin Crowley and Chris Bocklet lighting the lamp like it was playing against high schoolers, or Jesse Schwartzman and Kip Turner dueling it out as the two best goalies.

All five Players are leading the league in some category or another. Gurenlian is the league leader in face- off percentage, Crowley leads all mid- fielders in points, Bocklet leads all players in points, Schwartzman is the league leader in wins  and is second in all other goalie stats, and Turner is the league leader in save percentage, goals against, and goals against average.

Kip Turner, of the Chesapeake Bayhawks, leads all goalies in all except wins, saves, and 2 point goals against. Turner is a 7 year veteran of the MLL and is have his best season on record. He has given the Bayhawks a legitimate chance of making the playoffs. He leads the league with a goals against average of 9.63 and a save percentage of 61.2 percent. Turner also plays for a team that is known for above average defense, but he has kept the Bayhawks in games when his defense has not shown up.

Jesse Schwartzman, of the Denver Outlaws, is probably the biggest reason the Outlaws are undefeated right now. He leads all goalies in wins at 9 and is second, behind Kip Turner, in goals against average and save percentage. Schwartzman comes in with a goals against average of 9.71 and a save percentage of 60.3 percent. He is playing the best he has in his 7 years in the MLL, all with Denver. At this point he is the league leader in wins and he is playing on the best team in the league. Schwartzman will be a big key come the end of the season and during the playoffs.

Chris Bocklet leads all players in goals, 29, and points, 37. Although he is mainly a finisher for the Denver Outlaws, he very well could be the best finisher in the league. He is on track to have 46 goals on the season which would tie him with Blake Miller on the all time goals list and only one goal behind John Grant Jr. If he puts up the same points he has so far he will have a legitimate shot at grabbing the MVP trophy this year.

Kevin Crowley, of the Hamilton Nationals, leads all mid- fielders in points, with 36, and goals, with 27. Crowley is what makes the Nationals offense run as well as it does. He is the team’s best dodger, at attack or mid-  field, and he is also the teams heart and soul. In the 9 games so far he has dominated any defender he has gone up against. Crowley touts a 5 goal lead over the next closest mid- fielder, Drew Snider. He very well could crack the top 5 all- time list for goals by a mid- fielder in a single season.

Greg Gurenlian, Mr. Comeback, has a face-off percentage that is better than any other player, and better than every other team in the league. He has dominated the league with a wins percentage of 61.8, which is 5 percent better than Anthony Kelly of the Denver Outlaws. Gurenlian has been so dominate since coming back to the league last year after tearing his ACL. that he has more than earned his nickname “The Beast,” given to him by the fans on Long Island and New York. He should be the front runner in the MVP race this year and if he isn’t then he would definitely be the next man on the list.
