MLL Prospects: NCAA Quarterfinals Recap

The NCAA Tournament is now down to the Final Four with Denver, Maryland, Notre Dame and Duke having the chance to play for the 2014 National Championship. Meanwhile, Johns Hopkins, Albany, Drexel and Bryant all were sent home. How did the future MLL prospects do in their respective quarterfinal matchups this past weekend in Delaware and Hofstra? Here is a look at how every senior performed.

Bryant/Maryland:

Colin Dunster, A, Bryant: Dunster had four goals and an assist in his final collegiate game for the Bulldogs. He finished with 51 points this season.

Alex Zomerfeld, M, Bryant: Zomerfeld scored two goals in the loss and finishes his senior year with 41 points.

Niko Amato, G, Maryland: Amato wasn’t asked to do much but he six saves in the victory and allowed eight goals. He will likely be called upon more this weekend against Notre Dame.

Mike Chanenchuk, M, Maryland: Chanenchuk had a career day as he had nine points in the blowout victory. His season point total is now at 57 points and he will have to carry the load offensively this weekend against Notre Dame.

Michael Ehrhardt, D, Maryland: Ehrhardt was a ground ball machine this weekend against Bryant as he seven ground balls and helped stymie Bryant’s offense to just eight goals.

Brian Cooper, D, Maryland: Cooper was also big in the ground ball game as he scooped up five ground balls and had a caused turnover in the victory for the Terps.

Notre Dame/Albany:

Miles Thompson, A, Albany: Thompson scored three goals and handed out an assist in the loss. Miles Thompson’s 82nd goal of the season tied the single season goals record set by Yale’s Jon Reese from 1990. He finishes his senior season with 119 points.

Jack Reilly, D, Johns Hopkins: Reilly had a limited effect on the game as he registered no significant statistics in the blowout loss.

Brendan Fowler, FO/M, Duke: Fowler went 17-of-33 on faceoff draws on Sunday and was key in helping the Blue Devils get possession after scoring a goal. It helped Duke build an impresive lead that Johns Hopkins simply couldn’t overcome.

Jordan Wolf, A, Duke: Wolf added eight points to his season total with five goals and three assists. He now has 92 on the season and will be counted on more heading into the Final Four with Josh Dionne out.

Josh Dionne, A, Duke: Dionne scored four goals on four shots before suffering what could be a serious knee injury. He left the game and was in a big cast for the remainder of the game. If that is his last game, he finishes the year with 55 points.

Drexel/Denver:

Jamie Faus, G, Denver: Faus played his normal slot in the second half and had eight saves while only allowing three goals for the Pioneers.

Terry Ellis, M, Denver: Terry Ellis had one shot in Sunday’s win but was instrumental to the team’s defensive success as they only allowed six goals.
