MLL Three Stars: Week Five

Rochester Rattlers v Ohio Machine

Major League Lacrosse games continue to not disappoint. More close games featured strong play on both ends of the field. Here are my three stars from the weekend that was. Honorable Mention shout out to New York’s Rob Pannell for three goals and two assists as the Lizards improved to 5-0 as the only unbeaten in the league.

3) Jordan Wolf (Rochester) – 3 goals, 2 assists

Jordan Wolf finished with three goals and two assists to lead his Rattlers to a 15-12 win against Denver. Wolf opened the scoring just 53 seconds into the contest then had a hand in two of Rochester’s four second-quarter goals as the Rattlers held a 4-1 advantage that quarter to take an 8-5 halftime lead. Wolf also tallied a goal and assist in the fourth quarter to help Rochester wrap up its third win of the season (compared to just two losses). The loss drops Denver’s record to 2-2. The former Duke standout is now tied for second in Major League Lacrosse with 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) on the season.

2) Kieran McArdle (Florida) – 5 goals, 2 assists

Kieran McArdle did his best to make sure Florida earned its first win of the season, tallying seven points behind five goals and two assists in a 15-12 win over Ohio. Five of his points came in the second half. Tied at seven at the half, McArdle scored three of the Launch’s five third-quarter goals as Florida took a 12-9 lead after three quarters of play. In total, he had a hand in seven of Florida’s last 12 goals. The St. John’s product is now fourth in Major League Lacrosse with 20 points behind 13 goals and seven assists.

1) Tyler Fiorito (Chesapeake) – 22 saves

Tyler Fiorito was tremendous for Chesapeake in a 14-10 win over Charlotte, finishing with 22 saves while allowing just nine goals (one was a two-point goal). Fiorito made three first-quarter saves to shut-out the Hounds while his squad took a 4-0 lead after one quarter of play. Perhaps his best quarter was the second when he made nine saves, allowing just four goals as the Bayhawks took an 8-4 lead at the half. He went on to make four third-quarter saves and six stops in the fourth. The former Princeton standout has been the best goalie in Major League Lacrosse this season, currently leading the league in GAA (10.00) and save percentage (.612). The Bayhawks are now 3-1 on the season.
