NLL Power Rankings Week 16: RUSH(ing) to the Top

Another exciting weekend!  The defending champion Rush sweep a weekend matchup to claim #1 in the west.  And are now a win away from number one overall.

Georgia Swarm are on the brink of a playoff berth.  A win and a Rochester loss yhis weekend will seal the final spot in the east.  In the west, Calgary can clinch with a Vancouver loss this weekend.

The Bandits’ Dhane Smith is eight goals away from breaking Athan Iannucci’s mark of 71 in 2008 and also eight points away from breaking Shawn Evans mark of 130 points in 2015.

1—(3) Saskatchewan Rush (12-4)   Rush win the west on a weekend sweep of the Mammoth by scores of 11-5 and 11-8.  One more win for the Rush and the defending champions will have home floor throughout the playoffs.  It’s been said that the first playoff game for the Rush is already sold out.  Next Game:  Saturday  @  Vancouver  10 pm.

2—(2) Buffalo Bandits (11-5)  Bandits split the home and home with Toronto, each team winning at home Buffalo fell Friday 12-9, but won 14-8 at home.  Dhane Smith is eight goals away from breaking Athan Iannucci’s mark of  71 goals in a season and eight points from Shawn Evans record of 130 points.  Magic number is two, to clinch #1 seed in east.   Next Game: Saturday @ Rochester 8 pm

3—(1) Colorado Mammoth (10-6)   Colorado gets swept down to #2 in west and #3 in power rankings after a Rush sweep 11-5 and 11-8.  Colorado looks to get on track for the playoffs as they finish the season at home against teams that have a combined record of 9-22.  Next Game:  Saturday  vs  Toronto  9 pm.

4—(4) New England BlackWolves (9-6)   Once again fell behind early and game was over at the half as they trailed 11-4 and fell 16-9 to Georgia. New England still has a shot at #1 in the east, but first things first, a win this week will lock up at least a #2 seed. They look for revenge this week.  Next Game:  vs  Georgia   Saturday  7 pm.

5—(7)  Georgia Swarm (7-9)  If ever a team needed a sweep this past weekend it was the Swarm.  Winning 16-9 Friday over New England and 17-11 at Rochester vaulted the Swarm to the final playoff spot for now.  This team is certainly buzzing right now.  Swarm can clinch the final spot in the east with a win this weekend and a loss by Rochester.  Next Game:  @ New England  Saturday  7 pm.

6—(5) Calgary Roughnecks (7-10)  Had a chance to lock up the final playoff berth in the west but fell 13-12 to Vancouver.  Calgary is on a bye this week but can still clinch with a Stealth loss to the Rush.   Next Game: vs Toronto Saturday  April 30  9 pm.

7—(6) Rochester Knighthawks (6-9)   Fell to the Swarm 17-11, and also fell to fourth in the east.  What has happened in Rochester?!  Two years ago they were on the verge of  their three-peat, now they need to win and have some help.  A loss this weekend and a Swarm win will end any playoff hope for the Hawks.  Next Game: vs.  Buffalo Saturday  pm.

8—(8) Toronto Rock (5-11)   Split the weekend home and home with Buffalo.  12-9 Friday in the final home game, then a defeat 14-8 in Buffalo.  Rock just playing out the string now, big names injured, time for the youth to play.   Next Games:  Saturday @ Colorado  9 pm

9—(9) Vancouver Stealth (4-11)  Defeated Calgary 13-12 to keep their very slim playoff hopes alive.  Stealth must with their remaining three games, while Calgary must lose their final game on the final weekend against Toronto.  Next Game:  vs  Saskatchewan  Saturday 10 pm.
