Rush Win Second Straight, Top New England

The Edmonton Rush are 2-0 since the return of head coach Derek Keenan behind their bench and are now 2-2 on the season. The Rush pounded the New England Black Wolves 18-9 last night at Crystal Glass Field in Edmonton.

The story lines were plenty but none stood out more than the performances of Edmonton star Mark Mathews and rookie sensation Ben McIntosh who both had eight-point performances. Mathews had six goals and McIntosh four.

It was the second game in a row where the Edmonton offence was firing on all cylinders. After starting their first two games with only a total of 18 goals (two losses) the Rush have responded with a head turning 34 goals (two wins).

The Rush opened the scoring at 4:26 on a goal by Ben McIntosh, and then followed by Mathews at 9:34. McIntosh scored his second of the quarter and Zack Greer added his first of the night to give the Rush a commanding 4-0 first quarter lead.

The Wolves finally got on the board when Patrick Saunders scored at 1:11 of the second. The quarter turned out to be a hard fought affair with both teams trading goals with four a piece. With the score 8-4 at the half and New England coming on, it set up for an exciting second half.

The start of the second half didn’t disappoint Wolves fans back in New England. Kevin Buchanan scored only 11 seconds in. Just like the second quarter, the third was closely contested with the Wolves outscoring the Rush 5-4 and saw them trailing the Rush by only three heading into the final quarter.

The final quarter turned out to be disastrous for the Wolves as Edmonton flexed its muscles and scored six unanswered goals, three of them by Zack Greer, turning the game into a blowout.

The Rush have a bye week coming up before they resume play with a home and home series with Colorado.
