Stars shine in win over Barrie

On Sunday afternoon the Barrie Blizzard hosted their first home game of their inaugural season. The Blizzard took on the Toronto Shooting Stars. The Blizzard would have their work cut out for them as the faced off against Angus Dinely  who has been one of the hottest goalies in the league this year.

Neil Mayerhofer kicked the action off as he scored for the Blizzard to give them a 1-0 lead. Caleb Wiles would then add another goal for the Blizzard to give them a 2-0 lead. Toronto would not sit idle though as Mack O’Brien scored to make it 2-1 after the first quarter. The Stars would tie the game up in the second quarter as Dilan Graham scored to make it 2-2. Barrie would quickly regain the lead as Caleb Wiles scored to make it 3-2. Toronto though as they showed in their match up last week with the Blizzard can score quickly as the Stars notched four consecutive goals to take a 6-3 lead at the half.

In the second half these two teams were ready to battle as it looked like a heavyweight fight with both sides exchanging blows. The two teams would trade goals but when the smoke cleared Toronto held a 10-6 lead at the end of the third. In the fourth Toronto would extend their lead as Brian Croswell and Mike Gillian scored to make it 12-6. Barrie would fight back though as Rob Milnes, Eric Benesch and Mike MacLeod scored to make it 12-9. The Stars would ice the game though as Mack O’Brien scored on an empty net allowing the Stars to win 13-9.

The Blizzard put up a valiant effort in this game but in the end came up short. Angus Dineley was the Star of the show as he made 49 saves for his fourth win of the season. The Blizzard were once again led by Caleb Wiles who had three goals and an assist. The Blizzard will go back in search of their first win  next Saturday as they face the Durham TurfDogs.
