Stories of the Week: Canadian Lacrosse Everywhere

Busy week in lacrosse with news coming from the NCAA, NLL, MLL, CLax and more. Here are the top stories we thought would interest you this week.

The Edmonton Rush are in first place in the west and have clinched a playoff spot. They swept last weekend with wins against Philadelphia and Buffalo and have now won five straight road games and the rest of their season will be at Rexell Place.

The Colorado Mammoth have struggled all season, but they made two moves to improve their defensive core. John Orsen was signed to a contract while they activated Ian Hawksbee from the Injured Reserve to shore up their defensive misgivings.

The Denver Pioneers won their fourth game out of five as they defeated the Air Force Falcons 11-10 in Overtime on Wednesday. Denver is in second place in the ECAC/

The Ohio Machine picked up a goaltender this week as they traded for the Nationals’ Scott Rodgers along with defender Chad Weidmaier. The Nationals get a 2015 first round pick and second year midfielder Roy Lang.

The Niagara Lock Monsters clinched the first overall seed in the CLax playoffs with their win this week. Toronto is four points behind them and Brampton, Ohsweken and Durham are battling for higher seeds while Barrie and Iroquois are playing for the last playoff seed.

Three Edmonton Rush players, Aaron Bold, Corey Small and Curtis Knight won NLL awards after they swept last weekend and clinched a playoff seed.

The Philadelphia Wings have a chance to clinch the playoffs with two wins this weekend. They face the Western Conference Cellar-Dwellers Minnesota Swarm tonight, but they will be without their goaltender Brandon Miller serving a suspension.

The Victoria Shamrocks have made moves all off season, and this week they acquired stud goaltender Matt Vinc. Vinc has two Minto Cups, an NLL Championship and two NLL goalie of the year awards. Now he just needs a Mann Cup.

The Mann Cup drama from 2012 seems to have drawn some closure as the penalties were assessed to players and coaches of the Peterborough Lakers and Langley Thunder.
