Colin Heacock scores game winner 1:19 in overtime to vault Maryland back to Title Game

In the second game of the semi final, Maryland Terrapins (17-2) defeated Brown Bears (16-3) by a final of 15-14 in overtime.  Colin Heacock scored the game winner 1:19 into overtime out in front off a feed from Matt Rambo to beat Brown goaltender Jack Kelly.  Heacock had the hat trick on the afternoon along with one assist.

Jack Kelly kept Brown in the game the entire day.  Brown had twenty four turnovers (12 forced) that gave Maryland plenty of chances to put this game away early, but Kelly stood tall on a number of shots, some from no more the 3 feet away.  Kelly also stoned Rambo on a quick give and go.

This game was as even as they get. Shots on goal 29-25 (Maryland), Ground Balls 39-37 (Brown), Saves 14-11 (Brown).  For Brown, they have nothing to hang their heads about.  They played a well disciplined game, relied on defense and goaltending, and had Dylan Molloy return to the lineup for the game.

The Brown offense was led by Bailey Tills (4G/1A), Molloy, Blynn, Caputo, scored twice to pace the Brown Bear offense.

For Maryland, Dylan Maltz and Colin Heacock each registered a hat trick, Heacock also tallied one assist.  Local product Matt Rambo had a goal and a career high five big assists.

Maryland will face North Carolina on Championship Monday.   Maryland moved from the ACC to the Big Ten in 2014, so these former conference foes will face off Monday, and no doubt there will be some ACC flavor to the game.

We have a chance that the Men and Women national Champions could come from the same university as the Woman’s Final is Sunday with the same two schools facing off.

60 goals were scored total in the games today.  That is the most since 1995 (57), but 7 short of the record set in 1992.

Attendance for Day 1.    33,137
