Towson Upsets Hopkins 7-5

On Tuesday the JHU Blue Jays visited one of their local rivalries the Towson Tigers. By the end of the game Towson had shocked the No. 5 Blue Jays to win the game 7-5. This is the Tigers first time beating the Blue Jays since 1996 and first time doing it at home since 1989.

Towson started off the scoring making it 1-0. Then the Blue Jays went on a 3 goal run to take the lead. That third goal was at the 9:13 mark in the second quarter from Ryan Brown. After that the Tigers held the visiting Blue Jays scoreless for the next 23:46 mins of the game.

The Towson defense was so tightly packed in the box that it eliminated the top notch finishers that JHU is known for. Also the Tigers were very scrappy fighting hard for every ground ball. The Blue Jays also stayed packed in tight and didn’t allow Towson to dodge from X or GLE. The midfield scored a lot of their goals from 10 yards or more.

While this is a huge way for Towson to start off their season, this is very alarming if you are a JHU fan. Will they be able to figure out how to penetrate these kind of defenses because I’m sure the rest of the NCAA D1 teams were watching and will use this tactic in the future. The Blue Jays will try to get back on track on Saturday February 14th when they travel to Philidelphia to take on Villanova at 1:00pm. Towson will look to keep the win streak going against Loyola on Wednesday February 18th at 12:00pm.

Statistically this game looks pretty even:
