UMass-Lowell to Add Lacrosse Program

Yesterday, the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks announced they would be going division one in all sports (they only had division one hockey). Today, they announced they would be adding men’s and women’s lacrosse to their program, also in division one.

They will be joining the America East Conference. They will have lacrosse for the 2014-2015 season, and are officially a division one school for 2013-2014.

UMass-Lowell will be the 68th division one lacrosse team with Furman, Monmouth, Boston University and Richmond joining the ranks next season. This season, schools like High Point and Marquette joined while Michigan was new last season.

The America East Conference is currently home to Albany, Binghampton, Hartford, Stony Brook, UMBC and Vermont. New England is also becoming a college lacrosse hotbed with Hartford, Vermont, Boston University, Providence, Massachusetts, Harvard, Bryant, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross.

The Riverhawks currently are division one in just hockey, where they play in Hockey East as one of the top teams every season.
