WLA Three Stars: Jackson, Schute, and Reid Among Those Shining Bright

1st star
Rhys Duch showed last week just how dominant he can be and how he can take over a game. Early in the week the Shamrocks (13-1-2) took on the Langley thunder (6-9) and won 6-3 with Rhys having a 1G,2A game in Langley then on friday the Rocks hosted the Salmonbellies and Rhys was all over the floor getting himself 5G and 2A in a 13-5 victory for Victoria and also earning himself the third star of the game, he also earned himself my first star of the week!
2nd star
Saturday the Burrards (8-7-1) visited the Palace on Pourier to take on the Adanacs (6-10) in a late season battle for playoff births and Ben McIntosh was strong the whole night in a losing effort earning himself 2G and Im guessing the loss didn’t sit well as he came out like a man on a mission grabbing himself 3G, 1A the next night, and although both were losing efforts Ben had a massive weekend and earned himself my second star of the week!
3rd star
Casey Jackson and the Burnaby Lakers (9-6) jumped into second place in the standings this weekend after hosting the Adanac’s and getting a thrilling OT win 7-6 and with Casey Jackson getting himself 1G,2A in the tight affair then two nights later overtook the Burrards with another tight and exciting game winning 8-7, and Jackson earning himself 1G and 5A to earn my third star of the week and help his team gain valuable momentum going into a playoff push.
Goalie of the week
This was an easy one. Even though his team lost in OT vs the Lakers it wasn’t due to poor goal tending as Adam Schute had 38 saves on 45 shots and was stellar all night then two nights later he avenged a earlier season loss to the Burrards by shocking them with 36 saves on 41 shots and earning his team a strong win in enemy territory!
Honorable Mention
Normally this spot goes to a close third for player of the week but this is way better. Liam Reid  of theVictoria “Intermediate A” Shamrocks came to the rink Friday night in flip flops and a t-shirt to watch the senior ‘Rocks’ take on the ‘Bellies’, but, little did he know he would be called in to play the back up role to Cody Hagedorn on the bench that night for the senior Shamrocks and borrowing Matt Flindell’s gear. With two minutes left and the game in hand (Rocks won 13-5) the Shamrocks showed how classy they were by giving the youngster a taste of the action and throwing him between the pipes to finish the game. For the record Cody also earned the first star of the game but what an experience it had to have been for Liam and good on Victoria for giving the kid the experience!
