Canadian Lacrosse Notebook: Jr Lakers Open Season, Brampton Hires Coach

Yesterday the Brampton Excelsiors hired head coach Clem D’Orazio to replace Mike Hasen as the coach of the Excelsiors. D’Orazio is formerly the head coach of the Ajax Rock who moved to Oakville this off season. He was fired before the move.

The majority of the Excelsiors lineup is returning this season. Brampton was the 2011 Mann Cup winners over the Langley Thunder but they lost in the 2012 playoffs. The Excelsiors open the season on May 23rd.

Junior A lacrosse season also begins tonight with the Peterborough Lakers playing the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves. The game can be heard live on The Lacrosse Radio Network at 8pm, with Scott Arnold on the call.

Tomorrow night the Barrie Lakeshores play the St. Catharines Athletics to continue the opening weekend for Jr A lacrosse in Ontario. Today the Sat. Catharines Saints Sr B team also made a trade, acquiring Canadian Lacrosse League championship game MVP Travis Hill from the Six Nations Chiefs of the Sr A Major Series Lacrosse.

On May 3rd Western Lacrosse Association teams submitted their rosters, which can be seen here. Meanwhile, earlier in the week the Peterborough Lakers senior team added Brock Boyle with Andrew Watt and Andrew Suitor expected to miss most of the season due to injury. The Oakville Rock also added Stephan LeBlanc from the Six Nations Chiefs.
