CLax Power Rankings: Monsters Sit At Top

1. Niagara Lock Monsters (9-2)
The Niagara Lock Monsters extended their unbeaten streak to seven, picking up two impressive wins last week. Last wednesday the Lock Monsters knocked off the Oshweken Demons 16-9. Just two nights later, Niagara downed the Shooting Stars 18-15. CLax league leading scorers Corey Fowler and Andrew Potter each netted 12 points in the pair of wins. Fowler and Potter lead all CLax scorers with 62 points in 11 games. Connor Danko has continued his dominance between the pipes as he has six wins and zero losses. He also sits second in goals against average (10.34) and save percentage (.808) among all CLax goaltenders. The Lock Monsters have the weekend off but will return to action Monday night when they host the Shooting Stars of Toronto.

2. Ohsweken Demons (7-5)
The Ohsweken Demons split their two contests last week as they fell to the top ranked Lock Monsters 16-9, but defeated the Durham Turfdogs by a score of 12-10. In the loss, Kyle Isaacs lead the way with a pair of goals and two assists for four points. Delby Powless netted six points (2 G,4 A) in the win, while Wayne Van Every added a pair of goals to bring his league leading total to 34.

3. Brampton Inferno (6-5)

The Brampton Inferno have turned their season and are currently on a three game winning streak. The hot Inferno downed the Toronto Shooting Stars 9-7 in fight night at the Maple Leaf Gardens last Thursday night. They also picked up a big 12-7 victory on the road against the Turfdogs of Oshawa. A pair of Inferno players earned Surge Apparel Player of the Week honours for week 10. Netminder Jay Preece was named defensive player of the week as he made a combined 92 saves on 106 shots in two games. He now leads all goaltenders in saves with 372. Orangeville product Dustin Caravello continues his impressive freshman campaign and was named rookie of the week. Caravello found the back of the cage three times while adding four helpers for a solid seven points in two games.
4. Toronto Shooting Stars (7-4)

Despite being second in the standings, the Toronto Shooting Stars have dropped in the ILWT power rankings after losing two games in a row. The Shooting Stars fell 9-7 to the Brampton Inferno and to the Lock Monsters18-15 this past week. Leading the way offensively in the two losses was Newmarket native Brad Levick. The Elmira College product buried three goals and added nine assists for 12 points in two games. The Shooting Stars also took a hard blow to their roster as Derek Hopcroft and Angus Dineley dressed with NLL clubs. Hopcroft was called up to the Buffalo Bandits were he had an outstanding five point performance with a hat-trick and a pair of assists. Dineley, who has been arguably the best netminder in all of CLax this season was the backup to the Philadelphia Wings starter Brandon Miller Saturday night against the Toronto Rock. The Shooting Stars may want to hope these positions are temporary as these impact players will be missed.

5. Durham Turfdogs (5-6)

The Durham Turfdogs have hit a bump in the road as they have lost four of their last five games, including two this past weekend. The Turfdogs were downed by the Ohsweken Demons 12-10 on Friday night at the ILA. The very next night Durham dropped a 12-7 loss to the Brampton Inferno. Leading the way offensively for the Turfdogs was the ex-Halton Hills Bulldog duo of Nic Grasby and Shane Scott with seven points each. In the first loss John Chesebrough was peppered for 59 shots, including two goals on 18 shots in the third quarter. The Turfdogs need to get back to their tough defense that they had at the beginning of the season if they want to get back above .500.

6. Barrie Blizzard/ Iroquois Ironmen (2-6)

The Barrie Blizzard and Iroquois Ironmen split a home and home weekend as they each bring their record up to 2-6. The Ironmen took the first contest 12-8 on Saturday afternoon at the ILA. Reigning Offensive Player of the Year Chris Attwood led the way for the Ironmen registering four goals and an assist for five points on the day. The storyline of the afternoon was rookie goaltender Jake Lazore making an impressive 46 saves on 54 attempts en route to the victory. Besides his stellar play between the pipes, Lazore made it rain for three assists from the crease. The next day the Blizzards offense was too much for Lazore to handle as they buried 14 goals on 48 shots. Caleb Wiles had a solid afternoon recording four goals, three assists for a solid seven points. Derek Collins picked up the win for the Blizzard while making 45 saves on 54 shots.
