CLax Season Preview: Ohsweken Demons

The Oshweken Demons are the defending creator’s cup champions and look to repeat in 2013. The Demons defeated the Iroqouis Ironmen 15-10 in last year’s creator’s cup.

The Demons though have been quiet this off season as they have not made any trade and feel confident in the team they had from last year. With their first draft pick the demons drafted Joe Hadis Maracle who they hope will give their offense more depth. Maracle had 23 goals and 25 assists and sat fifth overall in Junior B scoring.

The Demons biggest problem last year was their lack of offensive depth as Chris Atwood carried this team last year with 71 points. The Demons cannot expect Atwood to do this again as teams will be gunning for him along with the fact many of the other teams in Clax have improved since last year so a one man offense will not cut it. The Demons will need players like Marty Hill and Cory Bomberry to step up and help produce on offense while they both scored 30 plus points they need to do better and at least hit the 40 to 50 mark this year if the Demons hope to win.

The Demons greatest strength by far is between the pipes as Jeff Powless was a rock in net for them last season. During the Regular season Powless had the lowest goals against average in the league. In the creators cup final Powless stood on his head and made 55 saves on 65 shots. If Powless can repeat his 2012 performance the Demons will once again have one of the best goalies in the league.

The Demons will need to get their offense going on multiple levels this season as a one dimensional attack will no longer cut it. Along with the fact they cannot rely on Powless to stop 55 shots a night and will need to be tighter on defense. Expect the Demons to be competitive this season but their lack of off season changes along with their lack of offensive depth will hurt them this year as many teams like Niagara, Durham and Brampton have greatly improved teams.
