Major League Lacrosse Three Stars: Lizards, Rattlers and Bayhawks

This weekend was full of close games. Each one had many stand out players that deserved game MVP. Here are the top three that stood out.

Rochester Rattlers: Jordan MacIntosh

Look out MLL, there’s a new sheriff in town. Obviously the dark horse of the three stars. After this weekend’s six point (5G, 1A) showing by Jordan, MLL teams will start having to factor him in to the category of “who to shut down.” No one, including MacIntosh, expected him to be that big of an impact, but it was just a matter of time.

Credit must be given to Joel White, John Galloway and the rest of the Rochester defense. Without them standing on their heads and stopping the powerful Hamilton offense, Jordan would not have been able to break out and get his six points.

Chesapeake Bayhawks: Kip Turner

If there’s something that irks a veteran player, it’s getting your job taken or being released. Well, both happened to Kip Turner and he is happy it did. Especially after Saturday nights big win over his former team, the Boston Cannons. Even though it was only a one goal win, for Kip, it was a “veni, vidi, vici,” type moment.

He adds to his save total, which now stands at 49, with his 17 saves last night and currently has a save percentage of .500. Turner has played in five games, totaling 265 minutes played so far for the Bayhawks, this season.

The Long Island Lizards Entire Roster

There’s no one person from this weekend’s Lizards versus Outlaws game that I could really put my finger on. So the Lizards, as a unit, have gotten my vote. Long Island’s defense held a Denver offense that was averaging sixteen goals a game, to eight goals total. The Lizard offense scored fourteen goals on a defense that was letting up an average of twelve a game.

That doesn’t seem like a big difference, right? Wrong. For a Long Island team that was very shaky at the start of the season and unknowing of how the season would pan out, it is. They are now one of the most feared teams in the MLL. I mean, they held the Outlaws scoreless and went on an eight goal run in the last sixteen minutes of the game in order to win. Only a team working together could pull that off.
