Steve Duffy Out as Cannons Coach

According to reports the Boston Cannons have fired head coach Steve Duffy and replaced him with assistant John Tucker. The Cannons are off to a 1-5 start this season.Tucker is the former MLL coach of the year with the Los Angeles Riptide, coaching there from 2006-2008. He also coached the Chesapeake Bayhawks for two seasons in 2009 and 2010.

Tucker won an NCAA title playing for Johns Hopkins in 1984 and has a terrific coaching resume at all levels. He won two championships playing for the Philadelphia Wings and he coached them in 2011, before stepping down after a 5-11 season and remaining a scout.

In the past Tucker has coached the Pittsburgh Crossfire and the Baltimore Thunder in the NLL. Meanwhile, the Cannons are off to their second worst start in franchise history, their only worse start 1-6 in 2002. Duffy has been coaching since the start of last season after Bill Daye stepped down when they won the 2011 MLL Championship.

“At this point, we believe John’s extensive Major League Lacrosse coaching experience and outstanding achievements as a player provide the best fit to lead this team to success,” added Cannons founding owner Matt Dwyer via a press release.
