Women’s Power Rankings: Four Undefeated Teams

  1. North Carolina (9-0)—Carolina is still dominating the field, but this Saturday will face Boston College; a surging team with an explosive offense and solid defense. This will be the first real test for the Tarheel’s in weeks, who hope to end Week 10 undefeated.

  1. Maryland (9-0)—Maryland has become an absolute force this season, and cruising for the next couple of weeks seems likely, as they prepare to face sub-par teams. Boston College will be their next test on March 29, and then they will have to deal with North Carolina.

  1. Johns Hopkins (9-0)—Johns Hopkins has been amazing this season, making choosing the #1 overall ranked team that much more difficult. They have been equally as dominant as Maryland and North Carolina, but have faced less dominant teams thus far.

  1. Massachusetts (8-0)—As a native of Massachusetts, I absolutely love UMass this season. They have turned into one of the most dominant teams in the NCAAW, defeating every opponent they have faced thus far.

  1. Syracuse (7-1)—Coming off a dominant win against the Harvard Crimson, the Orange will now face Northwestern in what should be a great, offensive match.

  1. Boston College (7-1)—Tomorrow, BC faces North Carolina. This will be their second opportunity to try and defeat a top-ranked team (they lost to Syracuse on Feb. 26). If they lose, I would be hard-pressed to believe they will make a deep run in the playoffs.

  1. Florida (8-2)—Five of Florida’s finals six games are conference match-ups, so now is the time to win. The Gators have been consistent in their winning, but many games have come down to the wire, so playing complete games will be the key to their success.

  1. Duke(6-3)—Though they have struggled at times this season, the Blue Devils are currently on a 3-game win streak, defeating the likes of Virginia Tech, Davidson, and Jacksonville. Tomorrow they will take on Virginia, an all-important conference game, one of two coming up in the next week.

  1. Northwestern(4-2)—Though they have been struggling, a solid win against Michigan last week may help boost their confidence going into Sunday’s game against Syracuse. Their two losses were close ones, so there’s no reason to believe they can’t pull out the win.

  1. Notre Dame (6-3)—The Irish are 5-1 in their last six games, losing only to Maryland (an admirable opponent). They have a few weeks to prepare for their game against Syracuse, a conference game that may mean the difference between playoffs or not.
