After the news yesterday of the United States indoor lacrosse team not participating in the 2914 Bowhunter Cup, which was to take place this Saturday, the event itself has been cancelled. The Iroquois team announced they would split their roster in two for the game, but obviously it is not feasible.
The game was announced just less than a month ago and it was promoted to be a game between the Iroquois and United States. Yesterday US Lacrosse, now running the indoor team, claimed that they were never involved in the event and had not committed to it. Not long after this was the announcement of the cancellation.
The event has gone on for the past five years with the Iroquois winning six out of seven contests. USA had never announced a roster and it never did seem like they were prepared. Despite US Lacrosse’s claims they were never involved, it seems as though the event was planned with a United States team in mind.
A tryout date for the United States team to compete in the WILC next September has not been announced, and once again, an outlet for American indoor lacrosse has been taken away, in the Bowhunter Cup.
More details as they emerge, but it is clear there will be no event this year.
