The National Lacrosse League draft is just under a month away and it’s that time of year to rank the top 50 prospects going into the draft. We begin today with 50-41.
41. F Kyle Isaacs—St. Catharines Jr A, Six Nations Jr B, Ohsweken CLax
Isaacs has been in the Six Nations system since 2009 and he has always put up numbers. The 5’9″, 166 lbs lefty is a bit undersized, but he scored 70 points this season with the Jr B squad. His Jr A career, which has included Six Nations and Saint Catharines, has netted him 121 points while with his Junior B squad he had 119. In his 29 CLax games he has 65 points.
Projection: Late fourth round, early fifth. Rochester or Connecticut.
42. G Riley Camazzona—Coquitlam Jr A
Camazzona is part of a decent goalie class that is part of an overall weak draft. He’s big, at 6’4″ and 210 lbs, and in 16 games this season his goals against average was 7.14 as he led his Adanacs to the Minto Cup and became the BCJALL champions. In the playoffs his GAA was 7.71.
Projection: Late fifth round, early sixth round. Rochester or Vancouver.
43. Kyle Potter—Six Nations Sr A, Saint Catharines Jr A
The Saint Catharines native has been putting up the points, scoring 60 this season with the Athletics. His career high in points is 70 in Junior B with the Spartans in 2013. He was signed to the Niagara Lock Monsters roster in 2013 when the team won the CLax title.
Projection: Fourth round. Minnesota, Connecticut, or Colorado.
44. Randy Jones—McGill, Brampton Jr A, Burnaby Jr A
Jones has played both in Ontario and British Columbia this season, picking up 47 points with the Burnaby Lakers in 13 games and 13 points in five games for the Excelsiors. The 6’1″, 185 lbs righty is a potential sleeper pick after having a strong season in Burnaby. He has 19 more points than his 27 in the BCJLL last season with Delta.
Projection: Fourth round. Colorado or Toronto.
45. G Ryley Brown—Victoria Jr A
It’s hard to draft goalies this season since the lack of teams leaves so many goalies without a place to play. Brown is also undersized at 5’10” but is also 210, filling the net a bit. Despite his smaller stature, Brown’s numbers speak for themselves with the Shamrocks. He has a 9.75 goals against average this season with the Shamrocks in 12 games.
Projection: Sixth round.
46. F Ian Martin—Six Nations Jr A, Ohsweken CLax
Martin is the second Ohsweken product here (along with Isaacs). The 5’10”, 175 lbs righty scorer has always produced points. This season he had 50 with the Minto Cup champion Arrows. This was just his second chance with a Junior A club, and in Junior B he has 246 career points.
Projection: Late third or early fourth round. Rochester likely.
47. Mike Henry—Delta Jr A
Henry has rose quickly as a prospect to watch for. After a decent 2o12, he broke out with 61 points in 2013 and 56 this past season with the Delta Islanders. The lefty forward isn’t big at 5’10”, but his assist numbers have been astronomical with 44 and 42 the past two seasons respectfully.
Projection: Fifth round. Toronto or Edmonton.
48. D Adam Bakular-Evans—Lake Erie, Nanaimo Sr A, Nanaimo Jr A
Bakular-Evans is a big guy at 6’4″ and 215 lbs and a nasty defender. He doesn’t score much, with just two points this season, but he can stop other teams from scoring. He’s physical and strong and a sleeper to stick in the NLL.
Projection: Fifth or sixth round. Edmonton or Calgary.
49. F Karver Everson—Victoria Jr A
Karver had a good 2014 campaign with the junior Shamrocks, scoring 32 points in 15 games. Twenty of those are assists—Everson is a very good ball handler and distributor and would likely be used in that role. He might be a bit of a long shot but has a shot to stick somewhere with a good camp.
Projection: Late fifth round early sixth round. Vancouver or Calgary.
50. F Brady Heseltime—Mercyhurst, Brampton Sr A, Brampton Jr A
Heseltine is a product of the Brampton system and spent time with the major Excelsiors this season. He had 22 points in 12 games with them this season. Heseltine is big at 6’2″ but just 185 lbs, so he has time to fill out, but when he plays a physical game he could be a sleeper impact player.
Projection: Fifth or sixth round. Toronto
