We had two games this past weekend, and not a single team had a winning record. Actually the combined record of all four teams was 7-11, but don’t let that fool you. Both games went to OT, and there was enough excitement for a whole slate of games.
Three Stars: Week Six
1—Dhane Smith (Buf) 5G/5A Exploded on Saturday night and helped keep the Roughnecks winless. Smith scored five of the teams first nine goals on Saturday night. Included in his five goals was a power play and short handed goal. Smith is starting become the go to guy for this Bandit team, and with Tavares out he will need to continue this type of game play.
2—Shawn Evans (Cal) 2G/6A/6LB Once again Evans was a key cog in the Roughnecks offense, but again they fall to defeat. Evans has 15G/25A in just five games. Evans is on pace to have 54G/90A/144pts. But you can’t trade points in for wins, which is something I’m sure Evans would love to do if possible.
3—Logan Schuss (Min) 3G/1A/10 LB Registered a natural hat trick as he scored the only three goals in the second quarter to help defeat the Knighthawks in overtime. Schuss also assisted on the game winning goal. In the beginning of the season, Schuss was unsure he would play this year due to his job. But it seems a deal was struck with the employer and the 2014 Rookie of the Year is buzzing for the Swarm.
Honorable Mentions:
Minnesota Swarm:
Zach Higgins (G) The net minder stopped 34/40 shots in a win over the Knighthawks in overtime.
Callum Crawford (F) The forward scored just one goal, but that goal came in overtime and was also his 200th of his career.
Rochester Knighthawks:
Matt Vinc (G) The reigning Goalie of the Year stopped 42/49 shots in an overtime loss to Minnesota.
Cody Jamieson and Dan Dawson (F) Both scored two goals in a 7-6 OT loss.
Buffalo Bandits:
Ryan Benesch (F) Scored 2G/6A in a tough overtime win to keep Calgary winless. Benesch is tied for the top spot for the leading scorer with 40 points. Benesch also joined the 600 point club with an assist at 13:39 of the third on a shorthanded goal by Dhane Smith.
Chad Culp (F) Culp registered 3G/3A in the win this weekend. Two of his three goals were part of a three goal run that at the moment turned a 12-11 deficit into a 14-12 lead.
Calgary Roughnecks:
Curtis Dickson (F) 2G/6A in an overtime loss to the Bandits.
Jeff Shattler (F) 3G/1A Shattler scored the tying goal with nine seconds remaining that had the Saddledome rocking and giving the Roughnecks a ton of momentum.
