Last year the Brooklin Redmen looked poised to make a Mann Cup run after finishing atop the regular season standings in the MSL with 20 points. Brooklin though would fall apart in the post season as Peterborough beat them soundly in four games.
Brooklin on paper has the team to compete for a Mann Cup but they need to learn to win in the playoffs in order to have any hope of a championship. The Brooklin offense will be led by the reigning MSL scoring leader Shawn Williams. Williams has 22 goals and 58 assists for 80 points in 14 games. Williams has shown no signs of slowing down though as he had a successful 2013 NLL season where he notched 19 goals and 46 assists for 65 points. Expect Williams to have a great year in the MSL and once again challenge for the scoring title. Williams will not be alone though as he will have support in the form of Derek Hopcroft and Kiel Matisz. Hopcroft has a great season with the Redmen as he notched 20 goals and 35 assists for 55 points. Hopcroft struggled with injuries this NLL season but in just four games four goals and seven assists for eleven points. Kiel Matisz also had a great MSL season in 2012 notching 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points. Matisz though after a phenomenal NLL season where he had 34 goals and 38 assists for 72 points looks prepared to break out on offense.
In net the Redmen will look towards Aaron Bold to hold down the fort. Bold had a solid 2012 MSL season as he compiled a 10-4 record along with an 8.39 G.A.A and .755 save percentage. Bold was also great in the NLL this season as he had an 8-6 record with a 10.65 G.A.A and a.745 save percentage. Bold looks poised to have a solid 2013 season and will be needed to help the Redmen reach the Mann Cup final.
Brooklin has all the talent a team could need on paper but they need to put it all together if they hope to win the Mann Cup. Brooklin will have their work cut out for them as they be fighting with the Peterborough Lakers for top spot in the MSL.
