n Wednesday, Toronto Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson announced a trade had been completed involving Rock holdout forward Aaron Pascas being sent to the Calgary Roughnecks in exchange for their Third Round Selection in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.
Pascas was signed by the Rock prior to the 2011 season after being signed as an unrestricted free agent out of the teams’ rookie and free agent camp which took place in the fall of 2010.
The 25-year old native of Port Coquitlam, BC played just one season in Toronto capturing the NLL Champion’s Cup with the Rock in 2011.  Prior to the start of the 2012 season, Pascas was moved to the Rock’s holdout list and did not play at any point during last season.
“Aaron was a big contributor to our championship in 2011,†said Sanderson.  “Being from the west coast, this is a better fit for Aaron.  We thank him for his contributions to the success of the Toronto Rock and wish him the best in the future.â€
This deal isn’t the first made between the two teams over the past year.  At the 2012 NLL trade deadline in March, Goaltender Nick Rose was acquired from Calgary in exchange for Toronto’s 2014 First Round NLL Entry Draft Selection.  When Toronto was eliminated from the playoffs prior to the Champion’s Cup Final, the Rock received Calgary’s Second Round Selection in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft as further compensation to complete that earlier deal.
NLL teams have until the end of the month to declare their two franchise players for the 2013 season. Â On August 1st, teams can begin to sign rostered restricted and unrestricted free agents from other teams as well as players that were on their own practice rosters in 2012. Â Teams are permitted to re-sign their own free agents and non-rostered unrestricted free agents at any time.
