The Buffalo Bandits traded their 16th overall selection on Monday night’s NLL draft to the Rochester Knighthawks for transition defender Brad Self.

The Knighthawks would use that selection to take Dan Lomas out of High Point and the Oakville Rock.

In 2016, Self played in 15 games for the Knighthawks where he  played in 15 games and scored 23 points. Self’s career high in points of 29 came in his second season in the league, 2004 with Colorado.

Self was formerly drafted by the Bandits in the second round of the 2001 draft, and he is the brother of Knighthawks defender Scott Self. He has played in Ottawa, Colorado, Philadelphia, and Chicago before landing in Rochester.

Lomas, who was projected to be an early draft selection, started all 16 games with High Point last season where he scored 43 goals, breaking his own school record. Lomas was also named the Southern Conference player of the year. With Oakville, Lomas scored 23 points in 13 games. He added 12 points in six post season contests.

The Bandits left side of the offense needed an upgrade, with depth behind Ryan Benesch not there other than Daryl Veltman. Self is expected to step in and be a top contributor for the Bandits and replace the hole lost with free agent Chad Culp.
