The Georgia Swarm and New England Black Wolves today announced a trade with the Swarm acquiring defenseman Drew Petkoff from the Black Wolves in exchange for forward Shane MacDonald.
Petkoff, 30, spent the 2015 season with the Black Wolves and posted four points (2G, 2A), 40 loose balls and seven forced turnovers over seven contests. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound lefty previously spent time with Buffalo (2013) and Toronto (2010-12), where he won a Champion’s Cup with the Rock in 2011. In his five-year career, the Hamilton, Ontario native has recorded 17 points (4G, 13A) and 172 loose balls in 35 games.
“We’re excited to add a veteran presence and someone with championship experience to the backend in Drew Petkoff,” Swarm Owner and General Manager John Arlotta said. “His return to the NLL last year at the end of the season showed that he has great loose ball skills and we’re excited about his ability to create turnovers on the defensive end.”
MacDonald, the fifth overall pick in the 2014 NLL Draft, played in 11 games for the Swarm in 2015. He had six goals and seven assists for 13 points while also scooping up 16 loose balls. The 6-foot, 205-pound lefty is from Elora, Ontario and played with the Brampton Excelsiors during his junior career.
