The Boston Cannons have made a resounding turnaround from their early season blunders. At the start of this season the Cannons went 1-5 losing games by one after another. Then on June 10 the Cannons ousted head coach Steve Duffy and promoted assistant coach John Tucker. Since this promotion the Cannons have gone 4-1 with 4 straight wins. The only lose that the Cannons have suffered since the change was last week against the Chesapeake Bayhawks, in overtime.
Boston has also made the biggest trade this season, by picking up Stephen Berger. This trade also sent Steve Mock to rejoin fellow Cornell alum Rob Pannell, it also sent a second round pick to New York. This added more midfield score to the struggling Cannons midfield but it also added a new dynamic to a fairly young offense, experience and leadership. It now allows Boston to free up players like Mike Stone, Cameron Flint, and Lee Coppersmith in the offensive schemes.
The Cannons are riding a high right now, and during this high they have gone 4-1. over the last handful of weeks the Cannons have looked as good as any team in the MLL. They have upped their shooting percentage, their faceoff wins and their clearing rate. although they are tied for fourth place in the league, with the Charlotte Hounds, they have one of the largest upsides in the league. They are getting improved play at all positions and they play two teams, in the Rochester Rattlers and the Ohio Machine, who are struggling mightily.
The Boston Cannons are one of the hottest teams right now and will definitely be the underdog team that no other team will want to play come playoff time.
Boston’s next game is July 27 at 7pm EST. against the Hamilton Nationals, who beat them in the season opener. This will be a game to watch this week, with a powerhouse Nationals team and a revitalized Cannons team.
