The Boston Cannons picked up a huge victory today against the Chesapeake Bayhawks, 16-13, and now they can feel a lot more confident about their playoff chances.
In front of over 9,000, Boston stayed in the entire game and led most of the second half to win the game. They face the Ohio Machine in the next two weeks, and if they win both those games, they will be in Championship Weekend.
Winning in the faceoff, groundball and shots on net battles, Boston played a complete game and never let up. Kevin Buchanan and Ari Sussman each had hat tricks to lead the Cannons in scoring, and they also got two goals from Paul Rabil, Mike Stone, Matt Poskay and Ryan Boyle.
The top scorers for the Bayhawks, who already have a playoff spot locked up, were John Grant Jr with four goals and they also got two goals apiece from Matt Abbott and Michael Kimmel.
Kip Turner played all sixty minutes in net for the Hawks and made sixteen saves on thirty one shots, letting in fifteen goals. Jordan Burke, the former backup to Turner in Boston, made thirteen saves on twenty five shots on goal.
With the Bayhawks already in the playoffs, they are now just playing for a higher seeding. If the Denver Outlaws win tonight, they will tie the Hawks for first place.
The Cannons, meanwhile, hold the tiebreaker on the Rochester Rattlers so they essentially have a two game lead on them now if Rochester loses. Then it would be one game and if they tie, the Cannons will get that tiebreakder to make it to Championship Weekend.
