Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for Week 9 of the 2013 season, which concluded on June 30. The winners are chosen every week by the League, and are based on outstanding in-game achievements. Rochester’s Kevin Leveille picked up Warrior Offensive Player of the Week, while Denver’s Jesse Schwartzman earned Warrior Defensive Player of the Week. Cam Flint took home Boston’s second consecutive Cascade Rookie of the Week accolades.
Leveille led the Rochester Rattlers to a 13-10 victory over the New York Lizards in a necessary win for the home team. The captain buried three goals and dished out two helpers, earning himself Player of the Game for the performance. Leveille was able to find the holes, and put himself into good position to get a few scores right on opponent Drew Adam’s doorstep. The nine year veteran completed the 100th game of his career, and has amassed 260 goals within that time. Leveille is second in Major League Lacrosse’s history for goals scored, ten behind Tim Goettelmann who has 270. Rochester will remain at Sahlen’s Stadium this weekend, hosting the Hamilton Nationals on Sunday, July 7, at 3 p.m. (ET). CBS Sports Network will broadcast that game live.
Scwartzman anchored the Denver Outlaws defense en route to a 17-11 win over the Charlotte Hounds, remaining a perfect 9-0 this season. The goalie accumulated 27 saves, a career high and second best in franchise history. The 27 stops are the most from any goalie this season, and Schwartzman accompanied that with a .730 save percentage. This season he has posted 117 total saves, a .603 save percentage and an average of 9.71 goals against. The seventh year veteran sits fourth in the League’s record books with 953 career saves. The 2013 All-Star and two-time Warrior defensive Player of the Week, will face New York this Thursday in Denver’s annual July Fourth game. CBS Sports Network will broadcast that game live, beginning at 9 p.m. (ET) as Denver looks to break the record for best start in MLL history.
Flint buried four goals, and tallied an assist to help lead the Boston Cannons past the Ohio Machine 13-10. The rookie midfielder scored three in the second quarter to give Boston a lead they would never relinquish. This season he has seven goals, and three assists, totaling 10 points for the 2013 University of Denver graduate. Boston will look to continue their winning streak this Saturday, July 6, hosting the Charlotte Hounds at Harvard Stadium. ESPN2 will broadcast that game live, with a start time of 8 p.m. (ET).
