The Boston Cannons picked up a huge win last night against the Ohio Machine, 19-13. It was the last home game of the regular season for them, and next week they will travel to Ohio.
The Machine got out to a 3-0 lead, and then the Cannons scored one, but Ohio would score another one to lead 4-1. The quarter would end with Ohio holding a 5-4 lead.
Boston took off in the second half and would not look back. They would score four goals in a row late in the second, goals from Brian Farrell, Kevin Buchanan and two from Matt Poskay. At the half, they led 12-8.
In the third the Cannons would score four to the Machine’s two, and the goals came from Ryan Boyle, Poskay, Buchanan and Ari Sussman. They would close out with three goals in the fourth from Buchanan and two from Paul Rabil.
They did not clinch quite yet because of the Long Island Lizards loss to the Chesapeake Bayhawks, but with a win or a Rochester or Long Island loss next week, they will be in MLL Championship Weekend.
Jordan Burke made sixteen saves for the Cannons and gave up just thirteen goals. Brian Phipps was in net for the Machine, where he gave up sixteen goals and made nineteen saves.
Boston had thirty six shots on goal and the Machine had twenty six. The Cannons also dominated in the ground balls department, with a 42-21 advantage.
They also dominated at faceoffs, 24-8 on the night. Eric O’Brien took each faceoff for the Machine and Chris Eck took all of the ones for the Cannons.
