Peterborough born and raised Paul Day has been named the new general manager of the Century 21 Lakers after a unanimous vote by the Lakers’ board Wednesday night.
Day has a long history of lacrosse in the league and the National Lacrosse League both as a player, coach and manager. He is a former captain of the Minto Cup champion Junior Lakers.
The married father of two is in his 17th year with the National Lacrosse League’s Rochester Knighthawks where he is an assistant coach with the NLL’s Rochester Knighthawks.
A Kenner graduate who is on its Hall of Honour, Day lives in Grimsby where he is a sergeant with the Niagara Regional Police Services and has served for 24 years.
Born in 1968 Day has been a head coach and assistant general manager of the Knighthawks and has been on the bench for four NLL league championships including the past three.
He has also been the coach and general manager of the Edmonton Rush. He was named NLL coach of year in 2004 and Inside Lacrosse coach of the year in 2001. He was an assistant GM in 2007 at the Halifax World Champions.
He has been an assistant coach with Team Canada in the World Indoor Championships in Czech Republic where Canada won gold and will be the defensive coach for the Canadian team this fall in Syracuse at the world championships. Day won three Minto Cups playing Jr. A lacrosse in Peterborough. He is in the Knighthawks Hall of Fame.
