A pair of games still remain in the Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) regular season. While playoff matches are already set, the final game of the season can still have future implications regarding playoff matches.
The regular season champion Six Nations Chiefs (15-3-1) will conclude their season with a Sunday afternoon match-up against the Oakville Rock (2-15-1). As the Chiefs having first place locked up, a game against the last place Rock will have zero bearing on standings scenarios. Chiefs’ standouts Colin Doyle and Cody Jamieson were absent from the lineup in the recent 14-9 loss to Peterborough and it is likely other players will receive the day off from Sunday’s game in order to ensure a healthy roster heading into playoffs. Six Nations will take on the fourth place Kitchener-Waterloo Braves (10-9-1) in playoff action.
Oakville will have little rest before taking on the Peterborough Lakers in the MSL’s regular season finale. The Lakers are currently one point behind the Brooklin Redmen for second place. With a win over the Rock, Peterborough would claim possession of second place and gain home floor advantage heading into their upcoming playoff series versus the Redmen. Peterborough’s Shawn Evans currently trails Brooklin’s Shawn Williams by four points for the lead in the MSL scoring race and is the only player standing between Williams and his third consecutive scoring title.
