On Friday night game six of the Mann Cup took place with the Victoria Shamrocks battling for their lives while the Six Nations Chiefs were looking to win the Mann Cup and bring it back out east.
This game would start similarly to many of the others in this series as Six Nations would draw first blood as Kasey Beirnes beat Matt Vinc to put the Chiefs ahead 1-0. The teams would battle back and forth till about halfway in the period when Cody Jamieson would score to put the Chief ahead 2-0. The Shamrocks would get back in this game as Rhys Duch would set up Cory Conway for the goal to make it 2-1. Conway would continue his strong play in the first as he would add his second goal of the night as he put the Shamrocks on his back in the first period. After the period the score was tied 2-2.
The Chiefs got off to a fast start in the second as Stephen Keogh scored to put the Chiefs up 3-2. The Chiefs would continue to roll as Kasey Beirnes scored his second goal of his game to go up 4-2. The Shamrocks Nolan Heavenor would get them back in this game as he made it 4-3. The Shamrocks began to pick up the pace after Heavenor’s goal and began to pressure the Chiefs. Scott Ranger would capitalize on the momentum change and score to tie the game at 4-4. The Shamrocks would continue to roll near the end of the period as Jeff Shattler would put them up 5-4 to end the second period.
The Chiefs would once again get off to a quick start in the third as Kasey Beirnes completed his hat trick with his third goal of the night to tie the game 5-5. The Chiefs would take the lead just moments later as Colin Doyle scored to put the Chiefs up 6-5. The Chiefs would add an insurance marker just 30 seconds later as Craig Point scored to put the Chiefs ahead 7-5. The Shamrocks would continue to battle but with two minutes left in the period Cody Jamieson would score to ice the game for the Chiefs putting them ahead 8-5. As the seconds ticked off the clock the Shamrocks could not find a way to get back in this game as the Chiefs shut them out in the third period to win the 2013 Mann Cup 2013.
So once again the Mann Cup is head back out east as no western team has won the Mann Cup since the Shamrocks did it in 2005. Cody Jamieson would cap his incredible Mann Cup performance as he won the Under Armour Mike Kelly Most Valuable Player award for his 29 point performance in the final. This series was a battle all the way to the end but the Chiefs were able to edge the Shamrocks out thank to Jamieson. Congratulations go out to both teams for a great season and a memorable Mann Cup.
