During the Mann Cup one of the biggest stories was that both Langley coach Rod Jensen and Peterborough coach Jaime Bately were suspended due to violating the rules of the Canadian Centre for ethics in sports (CCES). It was reported that both coaches had disrupted the CCES’s drug testing procedures. These suspensions were then stayed after game 5 and both coaches were allowed to coach in game 6.
News came out yesterday that Langley’s coach Rod Jensen would be suspended indefinitely for his actions. It was reported that Jensen was suspended due to him receiving an unsportsman like conduct penalty at the end of the game despite being warned by the CCES to be on his best behavior.
This is an odd situation as Jensen has now been suspended indefinitely for actions not relating to the original suspension but it is  due to his actions in game 6. Jensen will be missed by the Thunder organization for the foreseeable future.
This is a good move by the CCES as they are making a statement by suspending Jensen as he clearly ignored the CCES’s warning to be on his best behavior after the original suspension Jensen ignored the warnings and now needs to pay the price.
This is a big loss for the Langley Thunder as they are repeating WLA champs under Jensen’s tenure and it will be interesting if they can retain that form next season without their coach. This could be similar to the case to that in New Orleans as the Saints are 0-3 without Sean Payton showing how much coaching matters.
In the end I expect Bately to be suspended as well but his suspension will most likely be shorter due to not miss behaving while under review. In the end Jensen’s suspension is justified I hope that he will be back after one missed season as anything longer is ridiculous.
