The Iroquois Ironmen of the Canadian Lacrosse League have folded, and there is more team movement on the horizon. The Ironmen won the last championship, but not even that could keep them around for their third season. Earlier this week their joint team the Ohsweken Demons announced the demise of the Ironmen.
“Today the Ohsweken Demons announced that they are the only Six Nations based team in CLax for the 2014 season. While excited for the upcoming season, team owner Rodney Hill is sad to see the withdrawal of the Iroquois Ironmen.”
With the draft this Sunday, it is unknown how the league with proceed, but CLax commissioner Paul St. John told ILWT that CLax will undeniably play the 2014 season no matter what. However, it appears there may be another team in trouble, as sources tell us one other team may have to move due to arena issues.
One of our sources tells us that that team will be moving to Mississauga, and that it is likely the Brampton Inferno. The Inferno’s team website is also down and they are now the only team playing out of their building. A dispersal draft for the Ironmen will likely be announced shortly.
