After an exciting Final Four double header yesterday that included two overtime games, the Creator’s Cup Final is set to go. The sixth ranked Iroquois Ironmen will battle it out with the second seeded Toronto Shooting Stars for the Canadian Lacrosse League title.
Toronto is technically the home team in this one but they certainly won’t have home floor advantage as the championship game is being held at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena (ILA). They ‘ve hosted the entire weekend and the arena was rocking yesterday during the Final Four games so it should be electric once again today as their hometown heroes battle it out for the Cup.
Iroquois played in the championship game last year but lost 15-10 to the Ohsweken Demons; the same team they knocked off in this year’s CLax quarter finals.
Iroquois made it to this championship game by knocking off the number one ranked Niagara Lock Monsters 16-15 in yesterday’s semi finals. Kraig Maracle was the hero in that game scoring the OT winner just 1:36 into the frame.
Toronto also made it to this finals with an overtime victory in the semis. The Shooting Stars knocked off the Durham TurfDogs 11-10 with Aaron Grayson getting the winning goal 7:18 into overtime.
These two teams met twice in the regular season with Toronto coming out on top each time. They were both close games with the Shooting Stars winning the first game 9-8 while the second game ended 11-9.
Yesterday’s Final Four was the best lacrosse we’ve seen all year and this championship final is expected to top that so we should be in for an incredible game.
