Cummings, Law and Gurenlian Players of Week

Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for week 7 of the 2013 season, which concluded on June 16. The winners are chosen every week by the League, and are based on outstanding in-game achievements. Ohio’s Joe Cummings picked up Warrior Offensive Player of the Week honors, while New York’s Greg Gurenlian earned Warrior Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Denver’s Eric Law took home the Cascade Rookie of the Week award for the second consecutive week.

Cummings led the Machine to their first victory of the season, leaving Selby Stadium with a 13-11 win over the Rochester Rattlers. The midfielder finished with five goals on the night, coupled with an impressive .500 shooting percentage. The Player of the Game started his success early, completing a hat trick in the opening 15 minutes of play, highlighted by an around-the-world finish. His five tallies came off of feeds, showing his proficient abilities to move without the ball. Cummings has totaled 16 points this season, including 12 goals and four assists. Ohio will look to build upon their offensive success as they travel to Denver this Saturday to take on the undefeated Outlaws at Mile High Stadium. This game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. (ET).

Gurenlian collected 17 of 26 faceoffs to lead New York past Hamilton 12-10, and improve the Lizards to 3-4 this season. Gurenlian also grabbed 10 ground balls in the victory, while picking up an assist in the fourth quarter to secure New York’s lead. The faceoff ace increased his season marks, compiling 117 wins at the X, and doing so at a .650 win percentage. His individual wins and percentage are currently best in the League. In his MLL career, Gurenlian has amassed 914 faceoff wins and a .553 win percentage. This is his second time garnering Player of the Week achievements this season. New York will play in Boston this Friday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. (ET). Check local listings and ESPN3.com for live coverage.

Law continued his offensive potency, firing in five goals on five shots in a 13-9 Denver win over the Chesapeake Bayhawks. In only two games of his professional career, Law has totaled nine goals, and a staggering 1.000 shooting percentage. The rookie has readily inserted himself into the League‘s most well-rounded and most-impressive offense, picking up Player of the Game honors for two consecutive weeks. Denver is scoring an average of 17.43 goals per game, and homes three of the MLL’s top five scorers. Law has quickly found his fit, already ranked 9th among Denver’s leading scorers. The Outlaws host the Ohio Machine this Saturday, June 22, at 8 p.m. (ET). CBS Sports Network will broadcast the game live from Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium.
