Demons Top Inferno to Get to 2-0

The Ohsweken Demons continued their Canadian Lacrosse League dominance as they remain unbeaten after a convincing 16-8 victory over the Brampton Inferno.

The Inferno had revenge on their minds as they fell to the hands of the Demons in the semi finals last season, ending their season and hopes for the Creator’s Cup.

2012 Transition Player of the Year, John McClure opened the scoring with an unassisted marker 4:17 into the game.

The Demons replied with a pair of goals from Delby Powless and a man up goal from Logan Kane.

Former Durham Turfdog John McClure knotted the game up at two with a goal from rookie Dustin Caravello and Scott Tinning.

Holden Vyse found the back of the cage just over a minute into the second frame to give the Demons a 3-2 lead.

Former Orangeville Northmen Caravello found the back of the cage on the powerplay to lock up the game at three.

Fellow ex-Northmen Pat Saunders gave Brampton their first and only lead of the game at 4-3.

The Demons would close the half with a pair of goals from Cory Bomberry and Delby Powless to regain the lead going into the room.

A pair of hat trick goals opened the second half as Delby Powless and John McClure each registered their third goal of the game.

Each team exchanged goals to make the score 9-7 half way through the third quarter. The Demons added four unanswered goals to make the score 13-7.

Saunders stopped the bleeding with an unassisted goal to cut the Ohsweken lead to five. Saunders would have another chance to help bring his team closer with a penalty shot but he was denied by former Rochester Knighthawk Jake Henhawk.

Ohsweken loaded the net in first half of the final quarter with 4 goals from Roger Vyse, Delby Powless, Bomberry and Kane.

With just over five minutes remaining in the game, 2009 President Cup champion(Owen Sound), Mark Tinning added the games final goal on the powerplay.

Roger Vyse lead all scorers with a pair of goals and eight helpers for an impressive 10 points. Vyse now sits on top of the CLax scoring list with 17 points. After a seven point game, teammate Delby Powless is five points behind and sits in second in the league.

McClure lead the way for the Inferno with 3 goals and an assist while Caravello added three points in his professional lacrosse debut.

Brampton netminder Jay Preece was solid in between the pipes despite allowing 16 goals. Preece stopped 31 of 44 shots and even added an assist in the loss.

The Demons split action for their tenders as Jeff Powless made 46 saves on 53 shots while newcomer Henhawk allowed one goal on his eight stops in his 15 minutes of play.

Brampton will have another crack at Osweken next Friday at the Powerade Center at 8:05 p.m. The Inferno will have little turn over as they will also host the Niagara Lock Monsters the next day at 2 p.m.

The Demons will also get to action Saturday as they host the Barrie Blizzard at 1 p.m.
