The University of Detroit Mercy men’s lacrosse earned a 9-8 come-from-behind victory Saturday over Ohio State University in the 2015 season opener at Ultimate Soccer Arenas. It’s the first victory inprogram history over the Buckeyes.
Detroit scored three straight goals in the fourth period to take a 9-6 lead. Ohio State scored two goals to pull to within 9-8 but the Detroit defense didn’t allow a goal in the final 2:50 of the game to clinch the victory.
Freshman Sean Birney scored two goals in his first collegiate game and added an assist. Mike Birney, Shayne Adams, Alec Gilhooly, Brad Harrisand Mark Anstead all each added one goal and one assist for the Titans. Anstead, Sean Birney, Gilhooly and Harris all scored their first collegiate goals in the contest.
Jason Weber made 13 saves between the pipes for the Titans. Ohio State had the edge in shots in the game, 38-30.
The Titans return to the field Saturday, Feb. 14 for a 7 p.m. game at Michigan.
