The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month award winners for March of the 2013 NLL regular season.
Toronto Rock forward Colin Doyle, the league’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,260 career points who ranks third in the NLL with 82 points (25+57) this season, won the Player of the Month award as the Rock’s captain helped lead the team to the top of the East Division standings with the league’s best record (9-5). This marks the second-straight month that a Toronto player earned the distinction, as Rock forward Garrett Billings won the award for February.
Edmonton Rush forward Mark Matthews, who leads all rookie scorers with 59 points (35+24) and is tied for second in the league with 35 goals, won his third-straight Rookie of the Month award this year after helping the Rush (8-5) go undefeated in the month of March.
Player of the Month
Colin Doyle, Toronto Rock (5 GP, 11G, 24A, 35 PTS, 14 LB): Doyle recorded a combined 35 points (11+24), with a single-game high of nine points (2+7) on March 8 vs. Colorado, and 14 loose balls as Toronto posted a 3-2 record in the month of March.
Rookie of the Month
Mark Matthews (4 GP, 10G, 7A, 17 PTS, 16 LB): Matthews recorded a combined 17 points (10+7), with a single-game high of five points (3+2) on March 16 at Rochester, and 16 loose balls as Edmonton posted a 4-0 record in the month of March.
The NLL Monthly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
