The European Lacrosse League opens its third season this weekend with its first tourney, and we take a look at what to watch for.This first tournament is being played in Berlin, Germany so keep in mind that it is a six hour difference eastern time; for example the first game is 10am in Berlin, which means it is 2am for eastern readers.
Game one sees last year’s champions Deutschland Adler take on the Wolves. Jamie Plunkett has historically been one of the league’s best players and he leads the German based Deutschland Adler along with Canadian goalie Brian Tyacke. They have also added former Philadelphia Wing Kevin Finneran to their roster as a free agent.
The Wolves have on their roster Brendan Muise who has played in CLax and the PLL, and he signed as a free agent this week. They also added Jiří Košťál who was the league’s ninth leading scorer two years ago.
Game two is between the Custodes and Pietro Fillipi at 11:30am (3:30am). Sean Gibson of Ireland leads Filipi along with Ohio Machine player and former Kentucky Stickhorse Stefan Schroder. On the Custodes, top Czech scorer Petr Poupe highlights their squad along with Radek Skala and top tier goaltender Dominik Sika.
Game three sees the Wolves take on the Custodes at 1:30pm (5:30am) and Pietro Filipi against Deutschland Adler at 3pm (7am).
