Today the Philadelphia Wings (3-6) will face the Minnesota Swarm (1-7). The Swarm are coming off a 14-12 loss last night to the Toronto Rock. After three quarters the Swarm were down 13-4 before putting eight goals in the final quarter. So the question here is did the Swarm shoot their load, or was this a start of momentum coming into this afternoon?
The Swarm all season have either had good defense and no offense, or good offense and no defense. After eight games one would think they can come to a mixture between the two. Goaltending as well has flipped. Zach Higgins had the start last night and was pulled 1:34 into the third quarter for Tyler Carlson. When the teams last met the Wings put three past Carlson in the first two minutes and Higgins shut the door in a game with some controversy.
The Wings are on a three game losing streak, their second one of the season after falling to Buffalo 13-7 last week. The Wings are still in the playoff hunt as they are 1.5 games behind Toronto for the final spot. So this game is of major importance for the Wings to stay not only a game out of the final playoff spot, but to also win the tie-breaker over the Swarm as they each have a win apiece.
Wings will need to take advantage of a Swarm team that has played just 21 hours prior and had to battle back even in defeat.
All eyes point to Evan Kirk starting as Brandon Miller gets up to NLL game speed after being out the first seven games. Kirk has been playing well, the offense needs to pick it up, and this is the perfect time for it.
The Wings are off next week as they prepare to face the Knighthawks on March 8 in Rochester. The Wings return home March 16 to face the same Knighthawks.
